As a lover of all things dark and gothic, you’d think that owning and wearing black lipstick would be a non-event, and in fact, a given fact of life for me. Like System of a Down eloquently put it ‘Wake up, grab a brush and put on a little goth make up!‘.
Right?
Well nope – every time I have tried black lipstick I have ended up with either :
♦ Beetlejuice lips: streaky, dry and crazy looking;
♦ Looking like Ace Frehley from KISS, the carbohydrate crisis years: I HATE THIS BAND SO MUCH. And I’d rather look like a masked dude from Slipkot rather than any of the KISS band members.
However things changed after last weekend … After I swinged by the Kat Von D counter at Debenhams and went HAM on her make up products.
I indulged in a make up session and was curious to see if I could pull off black lippy … The lady at the counter was super helpful and she picked the Studded Kiss Slayer Lipstick for me – I am not gonna lie I squealed with delight when I saw it (I think Slayer started playing in my head as well).
Here I am pouting in black :
This lipstick :
♦ lasted ALL DAY and even survived a lunch at Leon – where these selfies have been taken (this is what happens when a girl has gotta eat AND immortalise make up)
♦ Did not streak a la Alice Cooper;
♦ Felt hydrating, and I have dry lips which tend to reject a lot of lipsticks by committing micro-suicide (yes, am talking about you picky skin particles leaving me every day)
I will be reviewing the other products in the coming days. In the meantime, here is a pic of me not giving a damn about the rain and still trying to pose with my newly painted face.
Well done Kat Von D!

you are stunning! Black lipstick really suites you. Also Kat’s packaging is everything😍 love it!
Wooo thank you so much !! Her entire range is amazing isn’t it ? So far am blown away ! 🖤💋🌹
Ooh! I have been eyeing this lipstick forever but never tried it because black has just always looked messy, even when applied perfectly. I own a black lipstick from Hard Candy but only ever used it to do a black and red ombré lip
But this looks amazing and has me seriously considering a purchase! Thanks!
Exactly the same problem I had ! They are usually streaky and uneven looking. Try it out in store, you won’t be disappointed:) x
i definitely will!

Also loving the new blog layout 🙂
Thanks girl ! We must do a make up session together soon 🙂
